Welcome to the first of many exceptional novels

Kerry Reichs graduated from Oberlin College and Duke University School of Law and Institute of Public Policy. She practiced law in Washington, D.C., for several years until she took a sabbatical and discovered that sabbaticals agree with her. She now writes full-time, splitting her time between Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, and is still trying to convince her two cats that driving cross-country is fun. Kerry has been in twelve weddings, has never married, and never worn any of those dresses again. The Best Day of Someone Else's Life is her first novel.

I spend most of my time these days enjoying the freedom of no longer working for a Large Law Firm. I have a flexible schedule working for myself, and, it turns out, a very understanding boss. Freedom involves lots of travel and going to museums in the middle of the day, just because I can. I justify reading lots of books as an important component of being a writer. Anyway, I get to call reading "genre studies" now and it still counts as work. Genius. Other interests include: photography, NCAA basketball, travel, hiking, and camping. I’m pretty active and like to hike, cycle, scuba, ski, golf, play tennis, and ride horses, though I'm not very good at any of them, since I don't focus on any one thing.

My Own "Best Day" Is Fast Approaching

The countdown is on! 2008 promises to be an exciting year for me with the release of my first book, The Best Day of Someone Else’s Life, in May. After writing a story about a girl faced with one too many weddings, I had to laugh to learn that three different friends got engaged over the holidays and my wedding calendar is once again jam-packed.

I'm very excited to have recently been granted a writing fellowship from the Hedgebrook Foundation. Hedgebrook provides women writers with space and time to create, offering both the solitude of a rural retreat, and the community of other visiting authors. So I'll be spending time this spring in my own cabin on 48 acres of the beautiful Whidbey Island in Washington state. I’m thrilled for this opportunity to focus on book number two. I’m adapting terrifically as an author because I already feel behind schedule!

Other usual winter rituals for me include: plotting to spend more time in Los Angeles than Washington, D.C.; postponing the dismantling of my pretty Christmas tree for as long as possible; and talking a big game about Duke basketball. I’m also zipping everywhere in my still-mostly-new MINI Cooper S convertible, more in love than ever.

Everything promises that this will be a great year. More than anything, I’m thrilled to be able to introduce the engaging Vi Connelly to the world in just a few short months. You’re going to love her. Thanks for visiting—and stay tuned!
